Ways to Give

The Honu Society

Assets major giving society was established in 2003 to encourage and recognize annual philanthropic support of the school.  The image of the honu was chosen because the green sea turtle symbolizes the educational challenge facing our students.  As adults, honu display grace and elegance in the waters just off our shores, but when freshly hatched, they struggle with each step across the sand in their quest to reach the sea.  The Honu Society is a tribute to our students who often struggle during their educational journey yet manage to persevere until they find their place in society where they can flourish.  The giving levels are as follows:

Mamani

‘Iliahi

Koa

Maile

‘Ohia

$20,000 +

$10,000- $19,999

$5,000 - $9,999

$2,500 - $4,999

$1,000 - $2,499

Assets benefits greatly from the financial support of its parents, grandparents, friends and alumni.  Like most independent schools, tuition covers only a percentage of the cost of an Assets education.  Unlike most schools, Assets is not a school of choice, but a school of necessity.  For those that are dyslexic and/or gifted, the challenge of acquiring an appropriate education is enormous.  There are very few options available to the students served at Assets, which makes what we do essential to the development and success of our very unique population.

Your gift to Assets School allows us to continue providing our students with the tools they need to succeed in school and in life.

WAYS OF GIVING

Annual Fund
At Assets, there are many opportunities for giving.  The Assets School Annual Fund gives you the opportunity to designate your support to a particular program or area of interest. Donate Now!

Tuition alone does not cover the full cost of our students’ education, so we rely on the generosity of donors like you to close the gap and ensure our students continue to receive the best education possible.  As a donor to the Annual Fund, you may direct your support to any of the following areas:

General Fund
Assets uses these unrestricted gifts to help fund immediate needs across the school’s spectrum of programs.  These donations provide vital support where the need is greatest and go directly to the heart of the school’s mission.

Tuition Aid
We strive to make Assets’ unique education available to all students regardless of their families’ ability to pay.  Supported by donations, Assets is committed to directing at least 10% of all income budgeted for the year towards tuition aid.  Join us in aiding this crucial program.

Brace Library
The challenge of getting children excited about reading is no easy task, but it does make it easier when the latest books by the most popular authors are stocked on the shelves.  Help the library purchase new books and supplies by making a donation today!

Capital Improvements
Starting with 24 students, Assets has grown tremendously serving over 350 students.  Like our students, our campus has grown.  Support our expansion so that we may meet the needs of our community.  Together we can make a difference!

Teacher Training
As an innovator in education, Assets is committed to fulfilling the academic needs of students with learning differences.  Through our professional development program, Assets not only focuses on the education of our staff, we reach out to the wider community providing training to the professionals in your community and abroad.

Technology Support
The world of technology is changing daily and Assets strives to provide our students with the best educational opportunities available.  Your dollars are used to purchase Smart Boards, new computers, printers and a variety of educational tools used in the classroom.

We are hosting an online gadget drive through Gazelle to raise money for Assets School Technology, and would love your support.  You can visit our drive webpage at http://assets.gazelle.com.

A gadget drive is a new way to fundraise that turns your used electronics (laptops, cell phones, MP3 players, digital cameras & more) into cash to support a cause. Contributing to our drive is simple. Just visit our drive webpage, find the value of the gadgets you would like to donate, and send them to Gazelle (shipping is free). The value will go to support Assets School Technology.

If you would like to donate, please go to Donate for Tech (http://assets.gazelle.com) to learn more about my drive and track our progress.

Schools of the Future
We have an opportunity to improve how Assets teaches the skills that different learners will use for the rest of their lives and at the same time dramatically expand the impact that Assets’ expertise can have on families and schools – not only in Hawaii but around the world.

Endowed Funds
Imagine a gift that keeps on giving!  Generous donors can create endowed funds to provide support for a specific school program in perpetuity.  The School invests the principal, and the income is used to provide the support.  Every $25,000 in endowment generates $1,000 annually.

Planned Giving
Planned giving is an easy way for donors to make a significant gift to the school.  One of the simplest ways to accomplish this is by remembering Assets in your will or trust.  In addition, there are many other ways to make a planned gift, often with tax benefits and possible lifetime income.  Contact Assets’ Development Office for more details.

Stock Gifts
Donating appreciated stock is an excellent way to help Assets and save on taxes.  Donors not only take an income tax deduction for the fair market value of the gift, but they also avoid the capital gains tax on the stock’s increased value.

Auto Donations
Donating a car is another way to help Assets.  It is an easy process that results in a tax deduction for you and more funds for the school’s mission.  Additional details are available by contacting the development office.

Matching Gifts
Many companies sponsor matching gift programs and will match any charitable contributions made by their employees.  All you need to do is include your company’s matching gift form with your donation.  Recent matching gift companies include:  Charles Schwab, DFS Group, First Hawaiian Bank, Google, Northwestern Mutual, Merrill Lynch and Hawaiian Electric Company.
