ASSETS' summer programs continue to offer our elementary, intermediate and
high school students many opportunities for learning and enrichment.
Kindergarten to the 8th Grade:
DIAGNOSTIC PRESCRIPTIVE SUMMER SCHOOL
Each student new to this ASSETS program receives an in-depth assessment leading to a Student Profile. The curriculum includes multisensory, structured language approaches such as Slingerland, Orton-Gillingham, and Project Read. Accelerated instruction in mathematics, science, and literature is available for students who are ready to benefit from such a challenge. High interest, hands-on enrichment activities designed to pique curiosity, integrate skills, and use knowledge are part of each student’s day.
DANCE/DRAMA ACADEMY (Grades 5 to 8)
Have fun while developing confidence and skill! Students will experience improvisational drama for dance and create their own dramatic skits. Hip-hop, jazz, and contemporary dance will add spice and the academy will finish with a student-created performance.
MARINE BIOLOGY ACADEMY (Grades 6 to 8)
Learn more about our “Blue Planet” in this hands-on science academy course. Students will develop their observation and critical thinking skills as they practice sea floor mapping methods, conduct sand analysis experiments, and dissect ocean critters.
ROCK BAND ACADEMY (Grades 7 to 8)
Learn to play electric guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard, then create and perform songs in a rock band. Unlike the “School of Rock” enrichment, there will be time for each student to work equally on each instrument on a daily basis. Classes will include chord theory as well as instrument technique.
WORLD CRUISE ACADEMY (Grades 3 to 7)
Students will “travel” around the world exploring cultures through cooking, art, games, and acting.
