ASSETS School is sponsoring a comprehensive four week teacher training session in the Slingerland® Approach as developed by Beth Slingerland to teach handwriting, decoding, spelling, reading comprehension, and written expression. It is specifically designed for those children needing the fundamentals of language taught systematically through the integrated simultaneous visual, auditory, kinesthetic association of sensory channels using a structured, explicit approach.
One of the hallmarks of these students is their difficulty recognizing language patterns within words and sentences. This approach, an outgrowth of the work of a neurologist, Dr. Samuel T. Orton, and an educator, Anna Gillingham, synthesizes units of language into words, then phrases and sentences which carry meaning.
